Bury Carpet Bowls League

Well done to Stuart McNeil and Lisa Edmead for retaining the cup for the 2nd year in a row. They faced some tough games against Kevin and Ellen of Hundon and a real battle with David Folkes and Daniel Hayde who were a very strong pairing and was one of the favourites to win this year. We managed to raise £471 for the league which is a great achievement. Well done to all who took part and all of us from the Bury Committee thank you for your support which helps keep the league going for everyone to enjoy.

Well Done to John and Gaynor Mayhew finishing as Runners up in The Bury league Pairs, always a good achievement reaching any final with some very good wins against some really strong pairs.

A big well Done to Colin Fellingham and Sue Davey for winning the Cooke Trophy for being the top pair during the group stages of the Bury League Pairs competition.

So a repeat of last years final for the Bury cup with Stanningfield taking on Withersfield once again. Both these teams in the last 2 years have performed strongly and now seems to be the two most consistent teams in the league. The final was kindly hosted by Cockfield and they provided an excellent neutral venue with tea and coffee which was appreciated by all. The games itself went all Withersfield's way with everyone playing very well. Stanningfield fought hard and threatened every end but Withersfield always had the answer and also a good run of the green. The whole evening was played in excellent spirit as you would expect. Withersfield were delighted to win for the 2nd year in a row but acknowledged that Stanningfield were no push over and with the team line up Stanningfield have they are soon going to win as they won the East league 10 points clear of Tostock. Stanningfield congratulated Withersfield with a well voiced speech from Ron Back and Steve Mayhew. Enjoy the summer until we start again in September!!!
Steve Mayhew receiving the trophie from Richard Sago for winning the Suffolk v Bury League cup played on May 13th hosted by Suffolk. From the Bury side Barrow, Cockfield, Thurston, Tostock, Stanningfield and Withersfield took on Bentley, Chelmondiston, Clapgate Lane, Elmsett, Harkstead and Old felixstowe from Suffolk with Bury coming out on top with 13 points to Suffolk's 9 points. This competition is played with non County players which gives others the opportunity to play on a larger playing field. The evening went well and was enjoyed by all.
